Graduates of Miami-Dade Corrections’ boot camp program got quite the treat Monday afternoon when Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson popped up in the audience.

Graduation ceremonies are pretty big in it of themselves but even better is when the Hollywood star is in attendance and it’s all for a documentary that he’s working on that’s near and dear to his heart.

Johnson shook hands with the more than 30 Cadets from the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department Boot Camp Program as they marked the culmination of six months of hard work at the Metro Justice Building in Miami.

Their families, drill instructors, judges and city officials were on hand for the big occasion.

The graduating class is made up of young men and women between the ages of 14 and 24 who are currently in custody and were sentenced to the Boot Camp program.

The program’s goal is to give them the tools needed to successfully re-enter the community, with the hopes and likelihood that they will not re-offend in the future.

Johnson talked about why he wanted to show the world what this program is all about.

“Three years ago, I had the opportunity to visit some of the cadets and I spoke to them and the moment I walked into the facility I knew this place was something special. I spoke to them. I gave the cadets my history, my background. When I was 13 or 14, I started getting arrested, doing a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing, multiple times I was arrested before I got to the University of Miami, not after I got to the University of Miami and I wanted them to know that life does go on and they’re going to have another opportunity. So after I spoke three years ago, I went back home. I went back home to my production team and I said, ‘there’s a very, very special place here and I think that we should create show, some show that can highlight and showcase what they’re doing and the impact that the boot camp is making. We need to show that to the world,” said Johnson.

The boot camp program is credited for helping nearly 90 percent of all graduates turn their lives around thanks to the training and mentoring they receive.

There is no word of when exactly the documentary will air but one thing that’s for sure is that “The Rock” sure is a busy man.

Johnson said in November, he’s going to be taping his show “Ballers” which airs on HBO and also he’s getting ready for the movie “Baywatch.”
